Annual Prize Giving Function - 2004

The Annual Prize Giving ceremony was held on 18th April 2004, Sunday. Yet Again the School and House flags were flowing down the library terrace evoking sweet memories of the old days and reminding the Old Boys what they have been missing since leaving school.

The Podium was shared by:

  • Guest of Honor Dr. Dipchand S. Garadi (D.Lit)
  • President of the College, His Highness Thakor Saheb Shri Chaitanyadev of Wadhwan
  • His Highness Wankaner, Captain Pratapsinhji
  • Darbar Saheb Shri Satyajit Kacher of Jasdan

Many Old Boys and their families along with the families of the present boys and girls attended the ceremony. All in all it was a grand reunion of a large number of the RKC family.

The ceremony started with the prayer from Rigveda by the junior choir and was followed by Vocal recital (Drupad), Instrumental (Harmonium & Sitar), Bhajan and Bharatnatyam dance.

It was then time for the Director's Welcome Address. In his speech, he emphasized the marvelous Board Exam results with all the students obtaining above 61% marks. He also acclaimed on the all round development of the school and thanked the Old Boys for their constant help. He repeatedly appreciated the gestures shown by the Alumni. He also appreciated the help and support being extended to him by the President of the School and the Trustee's for the School's development.

The Old Boys were then honored with various prizes among which some are worth mentioning - Shirin Gohil, Mitesh Kothari, and Piyush Vekaria - all got the coveted prizes. This was followed by prizes for the National and State Level Competitions. Among many few names are:

  • Mathematica (2003) -
    Mukesh K. Dobariya (National)
    Shreyash G. Mishra (State)
    Jayesh Khapandi (State)
  • The School bagged the 3rd prize for Folk Dancing in IPSC Cultural Festival 2003.
  • All India Camel Color Contest 2003 (National Level) was won by Rachana Chandarana standing 3rd.
  • Sports prizes (New categories were added this year).
Omar Babi - who captained the under 19 India A team in International tournament at Delhi.
  • Various other prizes marking achievements in diverse filed's.

It was also a proud moment when Mansukh M. Kuhada received 8 awards for his achievements. This time the girls were giving a tough fight to the boys in recitation nd other prizes too. With time, more and more girls will be doing this and the boys would not only have to compete not only among themselves but also with the opposite gender ... so all the best for a healthy competition.

At last but not the least The Dhangadhara All Round Challenger Cup was won by 'SORATH' ... three cheers for Sorath .. hip hip hurray! A proud moment for all the Sorath Boys ... Present and Past.

The Guest of Honor in his speech so rightly said that he wished he would be able to extend his help towards more institutes in the filed of education and hoped that one day ... the students leaving today shall set an example in the world and bring honor to the School by their deeds and activities.

The President in his vote of thanks congratulated all for the fine effort and expressed faith in the Schools further progress.

His Highness Wankaner ye again proved that age is not a deterrent if one has the will. He was just one day short to the age of 97 - the Oldest living Alumni of our Institute. The Director took the initiative and the boys followed by wishing him and sang the birthday song for him. his Highness also set a unique example as the Director rightly reminded that he has not missed a single official function since leaving school. It shows his love and dedication to the School and its activities.

For the first time new and innovative things were noticed and appreciated. Like -

  • French Recitation.
  • KS Prithvirajsinhji Jadeja Cup for the most Promising Athlete of the year.
  • KS Prithvirajsinhji Jadeja Cup for the Best Hockey Player
  • Lt. Col RK Jayendrasinhji of Jamnagar Cup for the best Bowling Performance.

The present boys were all in Jodhpuri's and Safa ... which were missing the last time. It was refreshingly colorful environment with the Safa back. The Jodhpuri's too were Dark Blue and not the traditional white, overall the boys looked very smart.

As the evening was coming to an end, suddenly the lights went out and the dark quadrangle got lit up by almost 125 students carrying lighted torches. The torch display around the quadrangle was spectacular indeed.

As all good things come to an end, the evening ended with the National Anthem.
